We are writing this week. Students are completing a lengthy worksheet (attached below) on "The Drummer Boy of Shiloh." This worksheet will aid them in organizing an evidence chart using the software program PEGWRITING and then constructing an essay that responds to this prompt: Describe how Joby feels at the beginning of the story, what happens in the story to help him overcome his fear, and how he shows courage at the end of the story. Use evidence from all parts of the text to support your thinking.
We will be exploring theme, setting, and cause and effect this week. The Ray Bradbury short story, "The Drummer Boy of Shiloh," will be the work that guides our exploration. Vocabulary test at the end of the week.
You can find the relevant pages from the text, including the vocabulary words, as a .pdf file below.
Progress Report grades next week will now include all the work from this week: Three worksheets and the vocabulary quiz. I will have all those grades posted by Sunday evening.
We'll be reading two short pieces this week, and we'll have another vocabulary quiz on Friday. A .pdf file with the pages from our textbook we'll be reading is below. The vocabulary words are also listed (and defined) on these pages.
